The Guiney Family

Last month I paid a visit to Meelick in Cork and was well welcomed by the whole Guiney Family, set in a quite villiage they have a perfect family set up to house a few dogs to keep them all busy through the winter.

this is a repeat mating of Coshair Magic and Central Creator

This dog was named  Winter League and won a Derby Trial; Stake in Tradaree

Elaines dog for this season is a Adios Alonso x Moonveen Lola

Lola is a half sister to the dam of Class Attraction ,

The third sapling for this season belongs to young Maria, its her first runner
this is a bitch by Musical Time out of Barnagahar Girl
All three are smashing saplings and give hope for great fun this coming season

Only a small family run yard its well set out , placed behind the family home, so 

easy to keep a close eye on the dogs.

It gives enough room to rear a few pups and house a few in training

in well fenced paddocks

The Guineys first took up with Coursing dogs after Eline declared she wasnt going to watch Coursing without a dog to run!

So two Saplings were bought for both Ian and Elaine.....im told Ians turned out a Handy dog and Elaines never forgiven him

The Brindle dog is a Ballymac Meave x Cabra Star and is one to watch on the track

next year

Just a few kennels keeps the numbers down allowing time to be spent on individual dogs

Theres one thing that stands out when you visit top kennels

They are always Clean and theres attention to detail

ClassAttraction

The kennel star was looking in great health....shes a great lead dog up the gallops and is keeping fit showing the pups how to go about there work.
Dont be surprised if you see her in a Stake or two this season

Maytime Primrose

Bought in last year she will be running in AAB this season

she picked up a few problems last year . Con is hoping for a better show this season.

The odd track dog is kept heres Con with Usual Story after his win 

on Beam Night (Kilkenny) in the Hedgehunter 720 Final

Hes a dog with a great strike rate and a 30.80 for the 570 at Tralee

Elaine is very proud of the fine new gallop that was laid down using 

Class Attractions Grace Bruton Prize Money

Its a wonderful surface....well raised up to allow good drainage so that it stays the same in heavy rain

GREYHOUND GATHERING

Irish Greyhound Board Announce First-Ever National Greyhound Gathering Day

Celebration of Retired Greyhounds, July 28^th at the Irish Kennel Club National Show Centre Dublin

The Irish Greyhound Board, Irish Kennel Club and GAIN Food are delighted to announce the first ever National Greyhound Gathering Day on Saturday, July 28^th from 11am to 3pm at the IKC National Exhibition Centre, Cloghran. Retired racing greyhounds from across the country will be celebrated in an event that will showcase them as loving and low maintenance pets while offering an entertaining day out for spectators. The Greyhound Gathering offers a platform for owners and trainers to introduce both their active and retired greyhounds to the general public, greyhound adopters to trade tips and those interested in adopting these much loved animals will be introduced to owners of active and retired greyhounds on the day.

Throughout the day there will there be greyhound shows and novelty classes such as Best “Handled by Gent”, Best “Handled by Lady” and the most coveted, Best “Available for Adoption”. Novelty Events on the day will include Flyball and Agility. These spectacular events will be open to all greyhounds but they will need IKC training prior to the event. Training for the events will be at the IKC Centre, Cloghran, Dublin (near Dublin Airport).

Barry Coleman, Welfare & Racing Operations Support Manager of The Irish Greyhound Board said, “The IGB we are always looking for ways to ensure retired greyhounds are looked after in the best way possible and we endeavour to find the right greyhound for every family that is interested in adopting a retired greyhound. The National Gathering Day is a great way to showcase greyhounds as great pets and great fun!”

Nick Hammond of the Irish Kennel Club said, “The Irish Kennel Club is not only a registration body for pedigree dogs, it also manages and licenses canine events throughout Ireland such as dog shows, field trial events and the popular agility and obedience shows. On the day, it’s hoped to stage "Flyball" for greyhounds, an event that requires speed and agility and is an exciting spectator sport. The IKC is delighted to be involved in this initiative with our partners the IGB and sponsors Gain. The National Greyhound Gathering Day will be a fun day for dogs, owners and spectators with a competitive edge and also highlight the benefits of retired greyhounds as an ideal new family member to potential new owners.”

Willie Rigney from Gain said, “We at Gain are delighted to sponsor the National Greyhound Gathering Day. It is a pleasure to work in conjunction with the IKC and the IGB and great to see the concerted effort that is made by all involved to create awareness around retired greyhounds as pets. At Gain we urge everyone to come along on July 28^th for a fun day out and witness these greyhounds enjoying a whole new aspect of retirement. There will free goodies, trade stands and representatives from GAIN, IKC and IGB to help with any queries.”

JOHN MOLONEY RIP

John Moloney receiving his trophy after Under Achievers win 

It is with great sadness that we bring news of the sudden death of John Moloney, Knockgraffon Coursing Club.
John will be fondly remembered by everyone who came in contact with him on a coursing field, at a greyhound track or at the ICC Munster Provincial meetings and AGMs which he loved to attend with his great friend Jimmy Kelly.

John was Chairman of Knockgraffon Coursing Club for over 45 years which must make him possibly the longest serving Club Chairman in the country.
He gave tremendous service to his Club and it was therefore very fitting that he should win this year’s Inter Club Champion Working Members Stake at the Irish Cup meeting with his greyhound Under Achiever.

Our sympathy to his wife Mairead, daughter Irene, sons Don, PJ, Alan and Paul (National Hunt Jockey). Also to the extended Moloney Family and to the members of Knockgraffon Coursing Club who have lost their ‘Captain’.

Reposing at his home in Lagganstown, New Inn on Friday 18th May from 4pm to 8pm.
Removal to New Inn Church on Saturday afternoon for Funeral Mass at 3pm.
Burial immediately afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.
House Private on Saturday.

COURSING ON SKY

Irish National Coursing Finals to feature on Sky TV

The slip of the hounds, the turn of the hare and the roar of the crowd will
all feature as part of a special IRISH TV programme from the National
Coursing Finals on Sky TV channel 201 on Thursday, February 16th at 9pm.

The programme ŒOut & About in Ireland¹ which was produced and filmed by
IRISH TV during the National Coursing Finals from Clonmel is a
behind-the-scenes look at this traditional and unique rural sport in
Ireland.

Highlights from the 3 day event will feature throughout the programme with
discerning and engaging interviews from passionate coursing followers from
Ireland and further afield. President of the Irish Coursing Club Brian
Divilly, ICC CEO DJ Histon and well known coursing enthusiast and Dublin
hurling manager Anthony Daly are amongst those that feature in the
insightful programme.

The film crew also captures the colourful characters that travel the byroads
of rural Ireland to Trial Stakes the length and breadth of the country as
they go in search of the ultimate prize in Coursing.

President of the Irish Coursing Club Brian Divilly said he was delighted to
facilitate the IRISH TV crew at the National Finals as the sport has
passsionate followers in rural Ireland and in the UK. ³This is our 87th year
and the crowds are bigger than ever, there are people here from every corner
of Ireland. It¹s one of the most lucrative weeks of the year for the local
hotels, pubs and restautants as thousands of greyhound enthusiasts flock to
Tipperary. It is also great to see so many young people interested in dogs
and the sport at present² he said.

Speaking in the programme, Junior Minister for Agriculture Shane McEntee
said he was delighted to be invited to Clonmel for the National Coursing
Finals, ³Ireland has the fastest greyhounds in the world. The Greyhound
industry is worth millions to the Irish economy and creates thousands of
jobs,² commented McEntee.

ŒOut & About in Ireland¹ presenter Pierce O¹Reilly said that the programme
shines a light on a unique sport that is hidden away in rural Ireland. ³We
get to chat to some of the brightest breeders, tireless trainers, and
adoring dog owners in the sport who make up the vibrant greyhound community
in Ireland,² he said.

The programme also features highlights from the Derby and Oaks finals as
well as interviews with the winning owners and breeders. Former national
hunt jockey Mark Dwyer and Clonmel Mayor Darren Ryan all give their views on
the future of Coursing in Ireland.

The programme can be viewed on Sky TV channel 201 and Freesat 403 on
Thursday February 16th at 9pm and will be repeated on Sunday and Monday at
11pm. It is also available online at www.irishtv.ie
