What a fantastic meeting we had this year.....and the good Lord provided a perfect day.

It will take me a while to sort out todays Pictures....Well done to the Boys from Glin. I so enjoyed your win!.....and of course all other winners.

Brian had anticipated my query on the wellbeing of Go Home Hare before coursing commenced this morning.
Kennedy was right!
Go Home Hare stretched 5l clear of Prime Example in a straight course quarter final. In his semi, ‘Hare’ opened an early lead, India Rio (q/f bye straight course) closed to within ¾ l at the turn.
The stand rocked.
In the bottom half, the little black dog –Blueview Sam – was beginning to take on iconic status himself. Aftertiming had no answer to the pacey ‘Sam’ and went under by 2 ½l.
Skellig Wish went ‘toe to toe’ with Solid Monk for most of the stretch. ‘Monk’ pulled out to score by 1l on the hill. The earlier exertions had taken their toll on the Skellig dog.
‘Sam’ was out in front of ‘Monk in their semifinal encounter. Roared on by his supporters , the 4/5 favourite forced ‘Monk’ to switch sides and was up by 1l at the turn.
The final was over after 30 yards. Favourite- Blueview Sam was visibly hurt. Nonetheless Go Home Hare turned the hare to make judge –Liam Kelly- raise the ‘red’ flag to complete the Boylesports derby 2012.
An extraordinary moment for Dessie, Brian and the (Clon) Mel syndicate. The stories of how this syndicate was formed are written into folklore – a decision was made in the bar on the Monday evening of last year’s coursing festival. Michael Fitzgerald was charged with selection. The rest, as they say, is history.
For Michael Sheehy and the other syndicate members (no one could clarify the exact number, though it did seem to grow as the week went on!), there is no doubt that Go Home Hare (…has his own Facebook page which some say, he updates himself) has changed their lives forever.
The Greyhound & Petworld oaks was a white knuckle ride for the bravest of punters. Fives Treasure bet Awe & Wonder by 2 ½l at the turn in the quarterfinal encounter. Emmas Gold rush looked equally impressive in her q/f win over Feede Blond. In a short slip ,’Emmas’ turned the hare at the brow of the hill and tumbled . A strong hare moved quickly to the escape. No damage done.
In the bottom half , Oh Bamba was behind early , but stretched out for a 1l win against Coffee In Currow at the top of run-up. Two turns followed – no hardship.
Wins over Holy Lady, Cassiebeag an Ravel Glory now put Dale Roisin up against Rosie Hedge in the last quarterfinal. Behind early, ‘Roisin’ pulled out by 1l, with the turn at the butt of the escape.
‘Emmas’ was quickly into her stride in the first semifinal. There was a wall of sound reverberating from the stand. I clinched my fist. Fives Treasure closed the gap but was still 2 ½l adrift at the turn. Another turn and puss was home. The dream for Kevin Morrissey, Johnny O’Connell, Declan and the lads was over.
12/1 after the first round, Dale Rosin (3/1) had snuck in under the radar and was a course away from a place in the final. ‘Roisin’ put daylight between herself and Oh Banba (10/1) , scoring by 2l in a straight course.
The curse of the ‘favourite’ tag was about to befall on Emmas Goldrush. Dale Roisin – Brendan Farrellys homebred – shot out in the final , forced ‘Emmas’ to switch sides, then scoring by 2l at the top of the run-up. An excellent hare quickly found the escape.
It is a long time since I have seen such a crowd attend the finals. The talk was of a renaissance of coursing.
Sky tv attended. Buses were laid on by the Clonmel town businesses to ferry people to and fro.
The ‘plain’ people-‘ the kind of people who don't ring Liveline, write letters to the newspapers or engage in disputes about the sport they love- have spoken.
Newspaper reporters rating their ability to grade snow on their foreign holiday as ‘as far down the ranking of expertise as a supporter of hare-coursing is down the evolutionary scale’ should come and see what we really have to offer.
I’m off to the Local. A few pints with my own kind.

With Clonmel just round the corner I took myself off to visit the Hollyoak Stud. a quick look at the breeders list will show they have no less than Seven qualifiers......from 3 different broods.

Holly-Oak Stud is sited between Cashel and Clonmel on the Fethard Road

I was first set up in 2002 and has produces some fine coursing and track pups ever since.

Set on 16 acres the pups are raised in spacious paddocks and brick built kennels

Every year when we go to Clonmel we find new surprises.....The hare park gets upgraded every year and last year saw an new Slippers hut that makes life better for everyone. This season sees a new hare boxing shed that is at long last worthy of the National meeting.

A huge amount of though has been put into every detail

hares come through from back run into large well padded run and get funneled into boxes

The shed is large with plenty of light

all penning boxes are on castor rollers, making movement of boxes very easy

Theresc a good viewing window allowing hares to be easily assessed

every hare going up the field is graded

JOHNNY RYAN FUND

On MARCH 3RD.. 2012 a benefit night will be held at Limerick greyhound stadium for 23 year old johnny Ryan from bruff in county Limerick. Johnny recently suffered serious spinal injuries in a domestic accident.

I appreciate sincerely that in these tough economic times everyone is struggling, however Johnnys situation is one that puts everything into perspective at least for me.

From my own experience i know that the doggy crowd are a conscientious and generous lot... Tickets are €10 and race sponsors are also being sought. PM me for further details or post a message.

Please if there is anyone out there with funds to sponsor a race I urge you to do so

This coming weekend marks the occasion of the 90th Annual Coursing meeting of the Sevenhouses & District Coursing Club. The club have been coursing on their famous field in Danesfort since 1922, and this year’s meeting promises to be one to rival any that has gone before.
The main attraction for followers of the leash will be the Seamus Hughes memorial Cup, which attracts a super entry this year. With the national meeting in Powerstown Park only two weeks away, this all age completion feature an number of dogs on the quest for a place in the Champion Stakes in Clonmel.

The dog to watch will be Marshals Safari, a champion stakes runner last season, and dual cup winner this Season, Mooncoin and Crohane. He will most probably start favourite. However, competition will be stiff, with cup and trial stake winners throughout the draw.

'Safari will have to hit the ground running, as he meets Lawlee in Rd. 1, he was last year’s first talking dog after a couple of flashy runs in Glin, but he hasn’t had it easy with fitness since, but reports from Kerry say he is coming good again. Coming at the winner of that buckle will be possibly Needham Skill, TS winning and cup winner from Rathdowney, he holds 6 champion stakes points, and is a dog of huge talent.

As you go through the cup, it doesnt get any easier, Cantalach Cocaim is a winner and runner-up this season, Wheel of Time a cup winner, Shanavullin Pines, a one time antepost Derby favourite, Coshair Magic, Gortglas Houdini and Ashmore Lucky very good trial stake winners, Gypsy Rover, cup winner and ru this season... Then we have the bitches, Gentle Angle is chasing a win that would put her in the Champion Bitch field in Clonmel, while the wonderful Beautiful Chrissy a 5 time cup winner is also looking to book her place in the Powerstown line-up. It is certainly a wonderful cup, when we got back from the great Templetuohy meeting yesterday evening, we had 42 entries standing for this stake, so I suppose it was easy in that respect to come up with such a field, but a nightmare in many other respects.

On that note, for the open events, trialstakes, 3 course duffer, Cup, we had a record entry, and after yesterdays late withdrawals the state of play was OTS 69 bitches, RDTS 64 dogs, Cup 42, and Duffer 37. It is a terrible situation to have to disappoint so many, and as the receiver of entries I have been bearing the brunt of it today, but such is the territory, the messenger is being shot !

Anyway back to the Trialstakes, again theses promise to be super affairs, with the RDTS, throwing us no less than 4 TS runner up's form this season, and while the layers will want to stay on the right side of Big Mahie, Barefoot Wally, Dustys Blueboy and Fords Cross, those in attendance would do well to keep an eye of July pup Cleanaway Rodge, who looked the part in Fenagh earlier in the season, and with age on his side he should be right there with the best of them.

The is again a highly competitive affair, with plenty of runners up and hotly fancied bitches going to slips here. In the top half we have runners up, Boomtown Hazel, Cousins Ruby, Chateau Bow Wow and Vacume Vagabond, who are joined by a bitch that has twice been fav on the final day of coursing this year, Shaunanne Flyer. It does not weaken down the bottom either, Crafty Cielo, Lady Casanova, Wine for Shine, Call Me Kerry, Miss Abby & Pumpaction Nina have all hit the post this season...

This year Sevenhouses are also hosting a new event in the coursing calendar, the English Invitation Champion Cup, which will be a keenly contested 8 dog stake, for English owned and trained greyhounds, that have been running in stakes around Ireland this season in an effort to qualify for this event. With coursing under cessation in the United Kingdom for the past number of years, this event offers a chance for English owners to continue to run their dogs in this ancient sport.

In the interests of good old fashioned sport the first round losers in the English Champion Cup plus their reserves will go forward to take on the losers form the working members stake in the first running of the Why You Monty Anglo-Irish Cup.

The card will also feature the John Drennan memorial 3 course duffer, and the Garnaman & Leo Dwyer Cup for working members of the club. A great weekends sport is promised with the first brace of dogs going to slips at 11.30am each day.

The order of running is as follows:

Saturday, Sunday 14th and 15th January
Judge: Tom Lawler Slippers: John Doyle and Brian Doyle
Start 11.30am both days

Saturday: Twice through Reserve Derby TS and Oaks TS. Once through Seamus Hughes Memorial All Age Cup, Working Members Stake and English Invitation Champion Cup.

Sunday: Start with 3 Course Duffer, Anglo-Irish Why You Monty Cup, Working Members Stake and complete card.

HARRY SCORES IN ROSEBERRY OPEN CUP

26th december

Parker Harry a puppy running in the nomination of Glen Healy and handled by Alan and Sean Quinn from Dublin was the winner of the Roseberry Open Perpetual Cup sponsored by Donal Monahan over the clubs preserves on St. Stephens Day. In what was a great days hunting after a tardy start this Shelbourne Aston whelp a comrade of this years Liscannor Dog Trial Stake winner over came all the obstacles placed in front of him to emerge as the worthy winner. A very nice feature of this win was that 30 years ago Alan’s dad Kevin Quinn RIP. had the privilege of winning in Roseberry so Alan took extra delight in this fine win of Parker Harry’s.

The first brace of Parker Harry and Offshore Hawk were released behind a racing hare on the stroke off Eleven O clock. On the white collar it looked as if the Hawk with the aid of favour was going to get the opening turn but to Harry’s credit he came around on the outside line to nip it by a length. This pair then mixed it evenly in a good course that lasted 25s before puss left the field.
Trip to Aries had a handy lead up to the first turn as his opponent Nama Rama lost sight on the run up. Aries took the opening two turns before this course ended after 12s to leave her well ahead on the handicap for her second round.

Scrap Man and Garryowen Kate had a ding dong battle after being released up the hill and on approaching the opening turn it was Garryowen Kate that pulled out to lead by a length to the only point scored in this course with Kate progressing to the next round after 10s.
Dingle Call and Large Scotch were sent back to slips after failing to sight their quarry. Placed back in slips a stag of a hare emerged from the beat, with both dogs being released in her slipstream it looked as if Dingle was on line but on hitting a hollow on the run up both dogs again lost sight and in turn the Judge Garry Kelly had no option but to disqualify both contestants.

Drumlynn was best away from slips in her course with Bestlaidplans and with the aid of pronounced favour she took the opening turn by two lengths she also got in for the next before puss crossed the bridge heading back in to the previous beat after 12s.
Lobnamna Shauna led Calypso Dream by one to the first score and with both hounds mixing it pretty evenly they were brought on a tour of the lower half of Farrells field in a course that lasted 30s before this strong puss slipped out under the wire and was last seen heading up Cash’s lane. Lobnama had done enough to progress into the next round.

Hold Up and Lurgan Queen were sent back to slips after failing to spot their quarry. Back in slips they were released behind a racing hare that headed straight towards Murphy’s farm yard. In a pulsating workout that the crowd really enjoyed it was Lurgan Queen that earned the most points to gain the flag after 45s.Both these hounds looked very weary once caught by the handlers.
At ten minutes after midday Liffyside Odson led up by three lengths ahead of Nanas Bluebell. Nanas then got in and proceeded in a very jealous fashion to completely outscore her opponent. When this racing puss made her exit after 50s Nanas very deservingly had gained the judges decision despite being led up to the opener.

On the change of beat we headed into the Cush at 12.55hrs with slipper John Doogue walking Parker Harry and Trip To Aries up the field. Up popped the expected hare and once getting both dogs sighted they were released, again on the outside line it was Parker Harry that took the opening points before this hare went into the adjoining field with both dogs in tow. Harry scored again before Aries got in for a brace, with this buckle beginning to get close on the scoring card it was Harry that then put the result beyond doubt with a brace before puss went out onto the golf course after 22s.

Garryowen Kate was sent back to slips as she failed to spot the first hare up the field. Once slipped again she was brought to the top of the field and then over across the next field before being caught after 32s.
Drumlynn led Lobnama Shauna by a tight length for the opening point and in a punishing evenly contested course that ended out on the golf course with the hare skipping around the pond and thus loosing both dogs after 50s. Drumlynn advanced to the semi’s.
With the stock now coming hard and fast it was a credit to all owners and handles in the manner in which they just caught their dogs and headed straight back to slips if they were still in. This was really brought to the fore when you could see Phil Meaney giving Jimmy Darcy a hand in getting Drumlynn back from the golf course and placing her back in slips.

In between all this happening we had two more buckles decided. Lurgan Queen just held on against Nanas Bluebell to gain the opening points and in a very evenly contested course in which both bitches gave their all it was the Queen that advanced to the Semi Final placing with Drumlynn.
The first semi final pairing of Parker Harry and Garryowen Kate were sent off after a stag of a hare that raced straight up the field. Harry led by three and had the best of the rest before this hare made his way past the previous two courses retrieving parties. Once passing out the ditch after 34s it was clear that Harry was the first finalist.

With plenty of game still in front of the beaters it was the sporting owners of both the second semi finalists Drumlynn and Lurgan Queen that placed both dogs in the hands of John Doogue and within twenty seconds a strong running hare made her way past the slipper shy. To both bitches credit they set off after their prey with Lurgan opening up a two length advantage to take the opening score.This hare then made her way to safety with both hounds following her a fair distance away.

With the beat now just in the finalists were placed in slips, no hare emerged so the beat was reversed to come from the railway end. Once set up again a stag of a hare was risen in the stubble field and made her way out into the coursing field with Jimmy Smyth doing Trojan work in keeping her straight. Once slipped it was Parker Harry that showed he was the freshest left in as the gallant Lurgan Queen was not able to live with this winner who took the course with the opening turn taking place up along the ditch line and then puss headed out of the field with Harry still giving chase. The red handkerchief in favour of Parker Harry was raised by Garry Kelly at 14.15hrs to the echos of his followers and also from the beaters who had done fantastic work over the day to bring this meeting to an end.

The Clubs Annual draw was made in the Granary Public House after coursing and resulted as follows. 1st Prize Donal Monahan. 2nd Leo Scully, 3rd Caoimhe Lacey O’ Brien and 4th Alan Kelly.

I only attended the first day at Rathdowney but couldnt help but be impressed with the Quality of this years hares. A big effort is involved during wet weather and these were some of the finest ive seen this year. Good hares make great meetings.....The final lineup for trial stakes were good quality and the winners worthy of there place in Clonmel.

Financial implications

 Rural householders in particular will be affected by the Bill as the majority of urban dwellers are
already connected to the public sewerage network.

 The initial cost to householders to register will be €50.
 Inspection is free and the cost for de-sludging is approximately €200

 However, if remediation works are required the costs may run into thousands of euros.
 There is no provision for these costs in the Bill and the onus will be on the owner of the system to
carry out and pay for the works.

 It is likely that the Bill, when enacted, will have a knock-on effect in the management of sludge
due to the potential increase in de-sludging of WWTS. Under the Bill the Minister may make
regulations regarding the “standards and procedures to apply in relation to emptying a domestic
wastewater treatment system and the disposal of the wastewater and sludge derived therefrom”

 It is difficult to estimate the costs involved, particularly to householders, due to the lack of
information regarding rates of failure of existing on-site systems and the degree of remediation
work required. Wastewater treatment systems such as septic tanks are situated below ground
and are not readily accessible

Its possible this bill will cost households thousands.....so a Call or email to your local TD is needed.....or its just pay up yet again!
