PADDYS REVIEW week 2

Week 2 – Glin & Ennis/Clarecastle

The new field in Glin was a huge talking point last season and the positive vibes continue after last weekend’s meeting. The standard of coursing has been reported as second to none once again.

Mulboy King (Adios Alonso/Mulboy Girl) took the honours in the prestigious Desmond Cup. This runner was held in high regard last season but had an unfortunate campaign. King made amends this weekend and collected the honours, beating Arcade Maximus in the final. Sturdyandstaunch collected his first points in his third campaign, reaching the semi-finals, while Living Next Door can build on his semi-final performance for the remainder of the season.

There was a high quality All-Age Bitch contest at Glin also with a number of trial stake winners from last year involved including Kitty Butler winner Blue Abella. Churchill Queen and Bated Breath reached the final with Bated Breath (Adios Alonso/Exact Science) getting the better of the contest on the day but both runners could meet again in this category throughout the season.

The Murphy & Ryan Memorial Cup at the Ennis & Clarecastle meeting went to last year’s Lixnaw Derby Trial Stake winner Tromora Master (Mafi Magic/Tromora Babe). Taur Road was withdrawn from the final while Master’s semi-final saw him renew acquaintances with Wicked Monk, the other finalist in Lixnaw last year. Tromora Master was declared winner and was the first of a double on the day for connections with Tromora Mafi (Mafi Magic/Tromora Darkie) collecting the second Reserve Derby Trial Stake of the season.

Leigh Smokey is turning out to be a top dam and produced another impressive winner this weekend. Isn’t He Class is a striking looking dog by Wallace Green and Leigh Smokey and collected his Derby ticket at Glin. With Kyle Leigh and Leigh Snowie already performing with distinction in Powerstown Park, this half-brother will look to go a few courses better come the last weekend in January.

The Oaks Trial Stake at Glin went to Graceandglamour (Razor Ashmore/Quality and Dash). This runner is also well related, with Bold and Brazen, Hi Black Jack and Kilfergus Belle members of the dams’ previous litters. In winning this stake Graceandglamour ensured John Flynn has trained a trial stake winner at the last five Glin meetings. Quite a remarkable achievement for all involved.

Finally, the Ennis/Clarecastle Oaks Trial Stake was won by Manley Girl (Wallace Green/Class Attraction). Another runner who ticks all the boxes in terms of breeding. Class Attraction’s exploits on the field are well documented, while her first litter also produced the likes of Manntan Maple, Foot Solution and Isn’t She Magic.
